LEGO Brickfulness is a product concept based within the LEGO ecosystem. It is designed to help kids take mindful pauses between classes, moments to recharge, relax, and play! Through a series of short audio stories, children are encouraged to listen, connect with their senses, imagine, and build based on their thoughts and feelings. LEGO bricks, as a powerful tool for creativity and imagination, can help stimulate the mind, restore energy, and provide a joyful break in the day, or simply a moment of fun.

Can we combine creativity and mindfulness?
Let’s call it Brickfulness.
LEGO Brickfulness is available through a mobile application designed around meditation principles and structured into four different types of sessions, each with its own goals. It is intended to help teachers and parents choose the most suitable session for their needs. The app empowers children to recognize their senses, feelings, and thoughts, and to shape them through LEGO bricks.

Enhancing Child-Centered design as the project driver.
The entire design process began after my master’s thesis project, where I saw the power of sound to spark curiosity and engage children in learning and creativity. It was also inspired by observing children play with LEGO bricks for the first time in their lives. During the months of research for my master’s project, and through close collaboration with a teacher at a school in Colombia afterwards, I was able to build meaningful connections with the children and test some of the ideas that emerged from our interactions. Below, I outline four main achievements from the process:

_Learning through play.
During my time with the children, I observed the difficulties some students faced in finding concentration, energy, and motivation to study. Especially in this rural context, various cognitive challenges are present challenges that Brickfulness aims to address.

_Understanding the kids role.
Creating a dedicated time for play and providing a safe space for the children in their natural surroundings helped spark their creativity and allowed me to develop the solution together with them.

_Safe space, better develpment & life.
Brickfulness provides a safe space where freedom, creativity, and motivation can grow. It offers a new approach to learning through play and sparks interest in the topics children choose to explore with Brickfulness.

_Following the 10 guides for Child-Centred Design.
Kids are the co-authors of the experience and I always kept on mind the principles like including them in the process, making the project error free and for everyone, and letting them know everything about the design process and solution.
Some pictures of the project development in Marsella, Risaralda. All the kids that appear on the images gave me their parents and own authoritation to show their pictures and results.
