    The Child Centred Design Outpost was a study trip that took place in the rural area of Marsella, Risaralda, Colombia, during March 2024. Over two weeks, 28 students from Design School Kolding (Denmark) and Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) formed mixed groups to share experiences, tools, knowledge, and play with the children in Marsella to design projects that promote the children's right to play in this coffee region in Colombia. The scope of the course was how we as play designers and from the perspective of children can design for children’s right to play.

    Colombia's coffee production has become socially unsustainable, excluding children and the elderly. Older adults, capable contributors, are forced to sell their farms due to family migration, leading to financial hardship and placement in nursing homes. Coffee Masters proposes a strategic design model for a community farm program in Santuario, Risaralda, Colombia, targeting marginalized older adults to provide them with affection, identity, participation, and support.

Executed in three stages, it begins by studying analogous programs worldwide and understanding the aspirations of undergraduate architects and housing enthusiasts. The outcome is a diagnostic tool featuring thirty housing-related concepts, providing the department with actionable insights. As a Research &#38;amp; Creation Assistant, my main responsibilities include designing the tool for the new program, analyzing existing master's programs, conducting user research, supporting tool prototyping, and developing various tools, products, and keynotes.

Unum proposes a strategic plan for the Catholic Church's relevance, economic sustainability, and modernization by 2030 through an application. This app incentivizes followers to visit and create content from the Church's global museums and churches, creating a dynamic engagement model.

Product strategist and design driven leader with 9+ years of
experience shaping product direction, guiding cross-functional teams, and translating complex insights into strategy. I specialize in connecting business goals, user needs, and technology to define product vision, align organizations, and drive innovation, leading digital product initiatives end-to-end from discovery and strategy to delivery and organizational alignment.

In my free time, I’m a Bodycombat instructor at PureGym (DK), where I lead and motivate people to stay active and healthy through music. I got certified during COVID-19, and it's been a rewarding experience ever since.

I also love playing tennis, table tennis, and weightlifting — a passion I've pursued for the past 14 years.

Every Thursday, I play the congas at a pub. I have a deep love for Latin music and its rhythms, which I first learned by drumming on a table 20 years ago. 🎶

My passion is specialty coffee. I enjoy the entire process — from the seeding process to that first sip — taking in the unique aromas and flavors. Coffee reconnects me with my childhood and my love for rural Colombia, its landscapes, and its people.

The future of coffee farming in rural Colombia is in danger due to a lack of generational renewal among farmers, which can be attributed in part to the absence of specialized rural education. Without opportunities for children to connect with their coffee culture and develop a positive association with it, we risk losing a vital part of our agricultural industry. If we don't take action, who will produce the coffee we rely on?

That's where Coffee Heroes comes in. This innovative workshop/school program aims to ignite kids' interest in coffee production through play. By empowering children to become superheroes with a mission to create educational games about the coffee production process, we can help them discover the importance of coffee in their community and inspire the next generation of coffee farmers.

A workshop designed for kids, by kids, but designed and guided by adults.
As a result, the project includes a project book that documents the research and development of the idea, and an implementation book that details the 8 phases of the implementation strategy for the Coffee Heroes project.

These books provide facilitators with access to materials, principles, recommendations, and instructions for each implementation stage, along with blank spaces for customization. The objective is to equip facilitators with the necessary tools and knowledge of the activities and actions required during the workshop.








Following a complete Child-Centered design process.
The entire design process starts with an intrinsic motivation to understand the lack of opprtunities for kids on rural Colombia and the lack of generational renewal. During the six months of work, I was able to create connections with kids from different rural schools in the coffee region in Colombia, understanding the surroundings, the context and creatting trust to develop my project though play. Below I evidence four (04) main achievements in the process:

          Different guided tours showed a problem in the current activities to saprks kids curiosity about coffee. They don't understand the children and focus on knowledge, no matter how boring and no important is for the kid.

With Licify Vende+, our goal is to train contractors to become more competitive and visible, while providing them with access to financing through our fintech platform, which offers upfront payments and progress-based payouts. A product strategy built on a user-centered design process.
The entire design process begins with a deep motivation to understand the real challenges faced by both builders and subcontractors. Throughout the process, my team and I conducted research with over 200 subcontractors and the top 10 builders in Colombia, ensuring we fully understood their workflows and needs. Our goal was to create a service that is not only helpful and meaningful to them but also contributes to the country’s development. Below are four (04) key insights we uncovered during the process:

          88% of subcontractors mentioned that starting a new job is the most challenging part; it requires significant working capital and effort. Contracts haven’t been finalized, let alone an advance payment received, yet the builder expects immediate results.

          100% of the subcontractors we spoke with mentioned that they need significant working capital to start a job, yet they never receive financial support from builders. This is where the cash flow gap begins—and often never ends, even after completing a project.

          94% of subcontractors mentioned that unclear information makes it difficult to reach new clients and business opportunities because **there is no information available** to help them develop solid competitive strategies for managing bids and competition.

          Subcontractors save time by purchasing materials on schedule, preventing workers from leaving mid-job due to late payments, and gaining leverage with suppliers to have orders fulfilled faster. With cash in hand, they can negotiate better terms with suppliers and eliminate inefficiencies such as extra logistics, rehiring workers, additional payroll, and informal loans with interest rates over 50% APR.

The research and design process was carried out while I was leading Tech &#38;amp; Product for Licify S.A.S. This product strategy helped the company secure $3.4 million in seed funding in July 2023, led by Brick &#38;amp; Mortar Ventures and Accion Venture Lab, with additional investment from Dash Fund, G2 Momentum Capital, and Columbia University’s VC fund.

The Child Centred Design Outpost was a study trip that took place in the rural area of Marsella, Risaralda, Colombia, during March 2024. Over two weeks, 28 students from Design School Kolding (Denmark) and Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) formed mixed groups to share experiences, tools, knowledge, and play with the children in Marsella to design projects that promote the children's right to play in this coffee region in Colombia. The scope of the course was how we as play designers and from the perspective of children can design for children’s right to play. 

My role was co-planning the outpost, coordinating both universities, create partnerships with schools in Colombia, mentor students and gave them an Insight workshop, so they can transform their research into meaningful insights that can lead the project to the final design.

An Outpost for Kids, with Kids, to promote Play.


The study trip officially began on March 11, 2024, in Bogotá, Colombia. During the first week, students attended joint classes between the two Master's programs, exchanging ideas and approaches. The following week, they worked directly with the children in Marsella, applying what they had learned and developing new insights that turned them into ambassadors for the children to the adults.

During the course, students developed tools and prototypes that would later be applied in Marsella when both universities met to work together. Schools from the Instituto Educativo Alto Cauca Manga Bonita, La Palma, and El Pajuil in the rural area of the town and the La Inmaculada school in the urban area of Marsella participated in the collaboration. This allowed students to interact with the children, play, and design with them. Below, I outline four main achievements from the process:

          _Play as common language
          
          
          Although they didn’t speak the same language, play became their common language. Activities such as hide and seek, painting on a giant piece of paper, playing soccer, or exploring the coffee field facilitated genuine connections. By being in a shared comfort space, children and adults built trustful relationships that enriched the design projects and strengthened collaboration.

          _Play with the kids, design for them
          
          
          During the trip, it became clear that some students faced difficulties using conventional design tools to interact with children, who, due to the social circumstances mentioned earlier, were often fearful of interacting with adults. Play proved to be a fundamental piece.

          _Play as trust enabler
          
          
          By integrating play into the design process, fear is reduced, and a safe environment is created where designers can build empathy and trust with the children. Safe spaces are essential for designers (Skovbjerg, 2024) and children (Feder, 2020), as they enable mutual understanding and facilitate dialogue, regardless of language. Play, as a facilitator, enables the development of these necessary spaces to foster trust and creativity.

          _Play equal to development
          
          
          Playing is a daily activity that transforms children's environment into a safe and fun space. Through play, they build friendships, develop trust and intimacy, interact socially, and find a place to express themselves, imagine, and explore. Understanding this dynamic and applying it to design is crucial for students, as play becomes a tool to develop creative confidence and build bridges with the children.

    Kembo’s is a game that spark kids curiosity in book characters through battles. The idea is to conquer the throne of the library using book character and its powers, and win new objects of your opponents during the battle. The game borns to support and strengthen children's interest in reading, by creating better reading experiences, with the use of child-centered design.

The project fosters the intrinsic &#38;amp; unconscious motivation to reading, it speaks about each character and its powers, establishes characters and other elements associated with the character and provides an element of surprise by giving a little story.

KEMBO'S GAME JOURNEY



_01 Entice
An arena located in the middle of the library, prepare a set of decks for each kid and organise the space.
_02 Guide
The librarian will be the facilitator to introduce the children in the game and support the play activity.

_03 Enter
The librarian facilitate the first arena fight and crowd the first conqueror to familiarize kids with the game.


_04 Free Play
Kids can use their deck outside in the way they like to... trading, fighting, challenging...

_05 Characters
The kid borrow a book and receives a random new deck of a character.

_06 Arena Fight
Kids fight for the throne using the rules that the arena has.

_07 Exit
The conqueror can have their image in the entrance of the library.

The game features 2 main elements: a main character from a book story, &#38;amp; 3 supporting objects that are relevant for the character through the story,

All characters and objects have 3 types of powers: Strenght, Intelligence &#38;amp; Heart. The idea is to conquer the throne of the library and win new power objects from your opponents.
The goal is to combine one character power with one object power to attack. If the sum of powers exceeds the opponents one, he/she win the object card and one point, the winner is the one who win more rounds and objects.





  
  DESIGN PROCESS
  
  
 The entire research process starts with an intrinsic motivation to support and strengthen children's interest in reading, by creating better reading experiences. During the three months of work, I was able to start playing, observing and having conversations with childrens in a school in Denmark, and understand how might we spark kids curiosity in book stories through play. Below I evidence four (04) achievements in the process:

           Using the research method Internship as a child, showed us that Games provides kids easy and constant interactions &#38;amp; rewards, same as digital environments do.

          External/internal motivations guide kids to read unconsciously. They don’t always like to read, but they read for something else without even noticing it.

    In recent years, coffee production in Colombia has become a socially unsustainable productive model, so children and third age are excluded from it. Although adults are considered old and do not receive opportunities in coffee production, they are forced to sell their farms because their family has migrated. Otherwise, they lose their money, became in total economic poverty and finish their lives in nursing homes, even when they can carry out some parts of the coffee production process.

Coffee Masters is a design strategic model, focused on creating a community farm program for the coffee production field in Santuario, Risaralda, Colombia. It is intended for older adults who pass or are close to being helpless by society and their families. Seeks to provide affection, identity, participation, and support.

CONSOLIDATION STRATEGY



_01 Formalization
Formalization of the crucial alliances in the project to have the needed capital for a correct implementation.
_02 Legalization
Procedures to obtain the operating license and paperwork to the institution Colombia Mayor with the required documents.

_03 Atraction
Inviting people (Independents in Autumn profile) who possess territory to be part of the project, offer their property to the program and become part of the Collaborative Estates.


_04 Vinculation
Approach the project through different tools to the elderly and join them to the Coffee Masters program so they can be part of the Collaborative Farm.

_05 Adecuation
Organize work teams to make corrections and improvements in the farm chosen for the Coffee Masters program.  Perform two partnerships with the Schools in Santuario and the Federation of Coffee Growers.

_06 Consolidation
All stakeholders come together in the territory to accommodate it and consolidate the Coffee Masters Estate. It will work as a collective construction where the next residents and the community will participate together.

_07 Disertation
Workshops intended to grown coffee plantations within the community using the latest technology. Classes will be given directly to the coffee plantation by members of the National Federation. It will be divided into 8 modules and ordained according to the crop stage.

_08 Iniciation
Residents of the Coffe Masters program move to their new home in the collaborative farm. It is the starting operating moment of the farm.

Maestro Coffee will work as a knot to attract Older Adults to the program and as an extra incoming in the future. Low-scale crops will be created on the farm so that residents can grow them.





  
  DESIGN PROCESS
  
  
 The entire research process starts with an intrinsic motivation to understand the degeneration of the countryside and its residents, especially the elderly in Colombia. During the six months of work, I was able to start conversations with people from the entire coffee production process, and understand the reason why older adults end up in extreme poverty. Below I evidence four (04) achievements in the process:

          _The generational relief enigma.
          
          
          Different guided tours showed a problem in the current coffee production model as it excludes some generations. It is a socially unsustainable model without generational change.

          Understanding the productive model in Santuario perceived from third age adults allowed me to understand the coffee production process and the different user profiles.

          An older adult farm model that provides identity, support, affection,  and strengthens the social well-being of people involved, proposes a new role for third age in the productive coffee model.
